Locke stated that â€Å"whatsoever then he removes out of the state that nature hath provided, and left it in, he hath mixed his labour with, and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby make it his property.† The peasant deserve the land of his labor. Working a field is what made the field owned, not some privilege from Scripture. Mill lived from 1806 to 1873, the period of drastic social change and industrial revolution in England. Britain’s society mostly live in a town because of the industrialization. People are moving from the rural area to the big city. Risk Management Business Workplace

Question: Describe about thr Risk Management in Business Workplace. Answer: Insert Date Dear Penny Binskin, I wanted to express my concern about certain risks prevailing within the workplace, which I mentioned in my last mail, i.e., relating to banking, travel, by-law compliance and human resources. The possibilities of such risks have been determined after meeting with the supervisor and landlord of the store. These possible risks somehow can be eradicated with the adaptation of certain measures and controlling mechanisms. For instance, the organisations inadequate controlling mechanism of keeping the bank deposits, cash and sales record, causes the risk related to banking. The organisation currently has lack of proper regime for keeping the bank records and $4,000 are kept overnight in the store. Lack of securities in the store premises increases the possibility of break-ins. Another risk, which I also discussed in my last mail, is related to travel risk, as the travel time between central bakery and store location is of two hours. I also want to raise the concern over the issue of by-law compliance risk, as policies and procedures of the company have not been documented in written form. Another risk is related with human resources, as employees lack understanding of the use of various equipments effectively. The detailed summary of risk, possibility of its occurrence, probable consequences and plan of treatment initiatives have been discussed in a lucid manner. However, proper justifications regarding adaptation of measures are also presented to raise concern about the matter and seek suggestions about further proceedings on the issues. Kindly let us inform, if necessitated additional information regarding the matter. Yours Sincerely, Your Name Assistant Manager Risk Management Plan Risk (provide a description of the risk) Risk Likelihood Consequence Rating Treatment Plan Risk priority (14) Rationale behind the effectives and feasibility for the organisation Travel Risk The travelling time between location of the store and the central bakery is of two hours. Such a long journey travelling made it difficult to reach within time from Red Hill to Perth. The pastries are prepared during the morning hours in the central bakery and delivery could only be possible in the afternoon period. Moreover, high rush and traffic congestion further increases the problem. The concern also rises about receiving company-branded supplies within the time. Problem related to large distance travelling also made it difficult in retain the customers expectation and in the long run, this can be a major issue for the business. The risk related to uncertain accidents also rise due to narrow steep and long distance travelling, as manager every week visit the factory for meeting and it last until evening. High: The likelihood of travel risk is high because of frequent requirements of raw materials are required in stores. Moreover, the risk related to delay in supplies are also high because during afternoon there were high rush and congestion in the roads. The possible consequences of travel risk are as follows: 1. Delay in supply to customers with uncertain delay in receiving pastries 2. Possibility of delay in the organisational operations resulting to slow supply chain process 3. Probable accidental issues for the manager travelling in peak hours from the central bakery after meeting 4. Uneven delay in deliverance of pastries could further evolve issue related to hygiene factor and resulted interruption in manufacturing process (The University of Tennessee, 2014; Kroese, 2010) To mitigate this risk, the possible mechanism should include renting the central bakery plant into nearby location of the store. The work in the weekly meeting and formality of refreshment must be completed earlier so that the managers do not need to travel during rush hours. Besides, discussion based on teleconferencing can be the alternative mechanism of meeting. 2 Establishing central plant in nearby location will enable saving travelling time required for procuring the raw materials and improves delivery time. Additionally, reducing meeting time will lower the possibility of accident and injury, which is probably higher while travelling during the peak hours in steep narrow roads (Fawcett, Magnan McCarter, 2008). Banking Risk The financial measures in store are inappropriate and possibly result to fraud and financial misappropriations. The store does not have adequate policy regime for keeping bank deposits, payment receive and paid in cash, withdrawing of cash and sales record. Risk related to robbery also exists, as around $4,000 is stored in stores cash counter overnight. The daily transaction registers and reports are not updated regularly. The store does not have adequate safe measure in its premises, which increase the possibility of break-ins and theft of cash. Thus, it lowers the income and financial gaining of the company and increase risk related to improper financial management. Moderate: The banking risk is moderate for the company. The likelihood of risk is moderate because the cases of robbery and thefts are very much uncertain and can arise anytime. Additionally, in accordance to the current security measures in the store, the possibility of break-ins is estimated at 50%. The consequences of evolving banking risks are very much severe and are presented below: 1. Robbery in store will result to financial losses and will hamper the sustainability of business operations 2. Not keeping the regular update of register by the authority will create difficulty in monitoring the financial performances of business 3. The events related to break-ins will possibly result to physical injury and personal harm to the staff members 4. The staff members of the store develop insecurity feeling about their wellbeing in working environment The banking risk can be resolved with the initiative of opening bank account of the store rather than keeping cash. The practice of keeping regular record of cash transaction should be made compulsory. To make the responsible staff committed towards keeping the records updating, training initiative can be an effective measure (Jones, 2007). 3 To evaluate the likelihood, consequence and priority of banking risk, the situational practice following in the store during the last 2 weeks have been monitored. The measure of opening a bank account will allow insuring the cash of the store and lower the risk and possibility of theft in the store at any point of instance. Moreover, keeping frequent record of daily cash facilitates determining financial strength of the business and possibility of manipulation of funds (Jones, 2007). By-Law Compliance Risk Considering the fact that the store is a family-run store, there is high possibility of developing by-law compliance risk, as family members are employed as staff. Responsible person govern some of the jobroles, such as James is responsible for monitoring and controlling the store operations, while Stirling has the authority to monitor wages policies. However, few activities are conducted in informal manner such as any of the staff members is authorized for making a delivery. This raises fault compliances, if the staff member makes wrong deliveries and does not ensure appropriate care of the responsible job role. Senior authority has also raised the concern that policy measures of the company are verbally informed to staff. Moreover, it does not involve any written documentation. Not having written governing policy measures evolve risk related to high wastage of water in the internal operations that increase unnecessary cost and tax. The likelihood of facing such risk ranges from moderate to high, as the lack of proper formal guided principal create absence of coordination and evolve uncertain working environment. Apparently, the likelihood of the risk depends on the commitment of the employees in their job role and organisational benefits. The consequences of by-law compliance risk are outlined hereunder: 1. Fault in delivery process of the products will hinder the business operations and customers perception 2. Charge of high tax can also be levied by the authorities due to not ensuring conduct of business operations in a sustainable manner 3. High wastage of water can raise issue related to high cost and expenses 4. Customers would loss preference over products offered by the company due to the low commitment of the business over environmental aspects (EPA, 2012; MWRA, 2008) To deal with by-law compliance risk, a guided policy and procedure of performing the organisational operations in sustainable manner should be prepared. A trainer needs to be hired to raise the skills and understanding of the staff members to operate effectively and perform operations with appropriate use of water (Markos Sridevi, 2010). 4 The likelihood, consequence and priority of by-law compliance risk have been determined with growing internal costs and taxable expenses in the recent periods within the organisation. The formulation of written guide policy can be an effective treatment initiative against the identified risk, because it inclines employees to remain committed towards the organisational benefits and lowering the overall costs from their operations (Bertels, Papania Papania, 2010). Human Resources Risk Human resources risk is another possible risk in the organisation, as there is no governing approach to eradicate the occupational hazards or injuries, which might arise in workplace. The personal and confidential data of the staff members in the computer are not been kept in a secured manner. Moreover, certain employees lack understanding about working in appropriate manner in their designated work position. The employees lack understanding about calculation of wage and superannuation. Issue associated to fit-out and improper management of organisational resources are other problems related to human resource. In terms of likelihood, surfacing of such risk is high, as the lack of knowhow of the employees is likely to be uncertain. Moreover, operations in caf include frequent use of computers and other electronic equipments, which make it highly venerable of facing such problem. The adverse consequences of human resources risk include: 1. Disclose of important information about the organisation to third party 2. Manipulation and misrepresentation of confidential information 3. Employees can face occupational hazards or injuries in their work 4. Low motivation and lack of satisfaction among the employees (Pay Benefits, 2016; Ministry of Ethics, 2014; Cole, 2012) The planned measure to lower human resources risk can be possible with the appointment of expertise trainer, who will be responsible for evaluating the technical lags in the organisation and raising the skills and understanding of the staff members about the mode of protecting confidential information. In addition, plan should also include replacement of the old office equipments (Jehanzeb Bashir, 2013). 1 In frequent occasions, the responsible staff members of the Caf raise concern about the loss of certain information. Discussion of the issue in detailed manner will help in ascertaining likelihood, consequence and priority of such risk. Training by a hired expert is likely to be an effective mechanism, as measure facilitates developing knowledge to evade loss of confidential information and ensure proper management of internal database in the organisation. The training initiative allows developing critical understanding about job requirement and enhances satisfaction (Khan, Khan Khan, 2011). Risk Action Plan Risk Tasks to Complete Timeline Person Responsible Travel Risk The following tasks should be completed to lower the travel risk: 1. Conduct a market analysis of the place nearby the store to purchase or hire property for the central bakery plant 2. Cost-benefit analysis of the properties suitable for central bakery plant 3. Use of telecommunication approach for communicating and avoid frequent visiting of manager to central bakery plant 4. Reduce overtime duration of meeting and refreshment time for the managers, if they have to visit central bakery plant 5. Shift in time of the employees working in central bakery plant and ensure pastries are ready for delivery before high road congestion period 6. Until finalisation and completion of new central bakery plant in nearby place, excessive meeting and need of travelling should be minimised to maximum possible extent to avoid possibility of accident July to October 2016 Ron Langley (Landlord and Counsellor), Board of Directors and Senior Management Team with consultation from Chief Executive Officer Banking Risk To evade banking related risk, the tasks that are needed to be completed include: 1. Consultation with the financial advisor of the company to discuss the issue 2. Opening business account with nearby bank based on the suitability of services 3. Direct the accountant department employees about keeping the records of financial transactions and cash operations in regular basis 4. Developing practice of depositing overnight cash in the bank accounts before the closing of store 5. The senior management of the company need to ask for the regular update of the financial transaction related to the store for evaluation at regular instance to avoid false representation of financial transactions 6. Consult with bank executives to develop real time money transfer solution related to customer payments directly into the bank accounts of the business, which will lower the requirement of keeping excessive liquid cash in store (Segovia, Szczepaniak Niedzwiedzinski, 2013) August to September 2016 Senior Management Team, Board of Directors and Caf Employees responsible for accounting transactions By-Law Compliance Risk The tasks involve in mitigating by-law compliance risk are as follows: 1. Review the measures adopted by the competitors in the market to ensure sustainably of their operations 2. Prepare policy document and Code of Conducts for the employees and evaluate its effectiveness 3. Documentation of Code of Conducts in written forms and communicate to every employees regarding its compliance 4. The written code needs to review its applicability that helps to ensure forming common value and employees perform their operations within the organisational boundary 5. Trainer need to be hired to enrich employees understanding and adopt mechanism of harvesting the rainwater into courtyard to ensure effective utilisation of water 6. The staff members must be guided regarding effective use of dishwashers and water consumption used for cleaning fruits and vegetables 7. Adaptation of quality flushing system in the restrooms and other places within the office premises to avoid excessive water usage and lower the overall cost (Wiggins, 2010) July to August 2016 All the higher and lower authority of employees involved with the company Human Resources Risk To ensure mitigation of human resource risk, the tasks need to conducted: 1. Appoint qualified expertise technical staff 2. Arrangement of training session for the employees, wherein they learn about the technical knowhow of keeping secured personal and official data and information 3. Evaluate the effectiveness and learning outcome of the training module and communicate it to the employees to underwent with training process 4. Repair the current fit-out and old equipments of stores 5. Developing proper reporting mechanism of preventing the occupational hazards behaviour by appointing a sole communicating agent in the store responsible for evaluating the problems 6. Motivate the employees to adopt and implement that they have learnt during the training sessions by communicating advantages and benefits of the change practice 7. Monitoring the actions of the employees frequently after training initiative by the senior manager to evaluate if the risk is prevailing in the working environment (Niazi, 2011) July to August 2016 Senior Management Team and Caf Employees References Bertels, S, Paranoia, L Papania, D 2010, Embedding sustainability in organizational culture:A systematic review of the body of knowledge, Simon Fraser University, pp. 8-67. Steve Wozniak Essays - Apple II Family, Steve Jobs, Nerd Culture

Steve Wozniak At first I had began brainstorming trying to think of a subject for this paper. I had heard Mr. Perry speak of Apple computer and of Steve jobs. His rise to power and his fall from grace then his rebirth, like the phoenix from in myths and legends rising from his own ashes. However I didn't know much about the subject. So I decided on the subject of Apple computers. Then the more I researched I found a more interesting subject. In the next few pages I am going to attempt to do justice of the accomplishments of Steve Wozniak. No not the other Steve, I found Steve Wozniak a more interesting person simply because I had never heard of the man. I never new he existed. Being of lesser knowledge than most on the subject of computers I found it fascinating. The way Steve Wozniak did things. Steve Wozniak was born in 1950. A baby boomer he grew up in suburban Santa Clara Valley, California with his parents and siblings. His father was an engineer for Lockheed and his mother was the president of a Republican Women's Club. He was into electronics heavily even as a child and young teenager. While looking at a magazine article he spotted a diagram for a simple calculator called the One-Bit-Adder-Subtractor. Woz, as his friends called him, dissected the plans and made improvements. In Cupertino Science Fair he took home first prize with the Ten Bit Parallel Adder Subtractor. It was his first attempt at building a computer. This would be the beginning of a great learning era it would seem. In junior high he had already taught himself how to design programs in computer languages. At homestead high school he absorbed everything he could about electronics and physics. He fare outreached his counter parts in class. After he graduated he went on to the University of Colorado but flunked out. You see he was bored with school because he was so intelligent. At least that is what he tells everyone. Returning to California the Woz still was interested in computers even after his fall from college life. One of his early interests was the Altair 8800. It was costly when it came out so he and a friend began research on it. In the garage of a neighbor Steve Wozniak created what would be called the cream soda computer. Named that after all the cream soda he drank while building it. While building it he met a man named Steve Jobs. Although the computer went up in smoke during a test the basic groundwork was laid for a machine that would change the world was set and a friendship that would turn into a new industry. After the introduction of the Altair an organization sprang up of hobbyist and amateurs. It was the Homebrew Computer Club and of course Steve Wozniak went to the meetings and rarely if ever missed one of them. It seemed the Altair used a costly microprocessor, the Intel 8080, to do its thinking. Since Woz couldn't afford the 179 dollars per chip he jumped at the offer Hewlett Packard offered its employees. At a substantial discount he could buy the Motorola 6800 microprocessor. He did experiments with it and like all computer parts the prices dropped. Then he moved on to the 6502 Microprocessor by MOS Technologies. The MOS chip sold for only 25 dollars this appealed to Woz because of the price per function. Plus he thought all this computer stuff could be done on very few chips and parts making it appealing to the everyday person. On April fools day in 1976 three men signed an agreement to form a computer company. After a little haggling a name was chosen for both the company and the computer. On 1300 dollars, which came from the selling of a VW van and a programmable calculator the three men would start an industry. They would call it Apple Computer and the first product would be called the Apple I. The three would soon become two you see Ron Wayne would sell out for only 800 dollars never getting the ten- percent of the millions to come. Surely he spent several

5 things you need to remove from your resume and CV...now!

5 things you need to remove from your resume and CV...now! When writing your CV, your main goal should be to sell yourself. Why should this particular company pick you for the job? You should be highlighting significant aspects of your experience, and skills that prove you’re qualified to the job sector you’re applying to. Engaging a recruiter by using a clear structure that highlights your marketable skills is always the best way to approach the job seeker process. However, many candidates are adding unnecessary and overused elements that are diverting from the substance of their CV, and ruining their chances of success. Here are 5 things you need to remove from your CV if you want to the job.Clichà © phrasesPhrases like â€Å"I’m a perfectionist† or â€Å"I give 110%† are overused in resumes and CVs. These are bland statements that a recruiter has read hundreds of times before. Don’t blend into the crowd by using clichà ©s that don’t tell employers anything factual about you.Instead be spec ific in your detail by including industry-specific skills, market knowledge, IT proficiency, and real measurable achievements. Avoid buzzwords that are worn-out and unoriginal. Focus on what makes you and your experiences relevant and unique.LiesBending the truth might seem like an easy option to boost your CV but lies should be avoided at all costs. It will become obvious to a recruiter you have told white lies when you’re unable to back up your claims at an interview, and if found out during the recruitment process, you could find yourself removed from the shortlist.Avoid risking your opportunity by lying. If you don’t tick all the boxes required for a role, talk about how you could enhance this position with your transferable skills and unique experiences.Big paragraphsLarge paragraphs and big blocks of text are difficult to read and can result in a recruiter becoming bored as they scan for relevant information.Structure your CV in a way that breaks up the text, hig hlighting particular sections using bold headers and bullet points. Entice the recruiter to read further by presenting your marketable skills at first glance, rather than hiding significant detail in between other information.Don’t bury the lede, let them know right from the start that you’ll be an asset to their company.Structuring your CV correctly will facilitate the ease of reading and ensure more of the information is digested.Grammar and spelling errorsSpelling and grammar errors come across as a lack of attention to detail to a recruiter, and can even divert their attention away from the actual content of your CV.You can’t rely solely on spell checker so always double check before submitting your application and even get a third party to review on your behalf to avoid any huge mistakes.Typos can break the flow of information, leading to crucial details being lost.Logos and imagesImagery isn’t necessary for a CV. While images do catch a recruiterâ⠂¬â„¢s eye, it’s to the detriment of your CV.Profile pictures are never required in a resume as the decision of your suitability for a role should never be based on your looks. Avoid adding them at all costs. Also, any company or educational institute logos shouldn’t be incorporated. You have a limited amount of CV real estate so don’t waste this precious space on unnecessary features.Andrew Fennell is an experienced recruiter and founder of CV advice center StandOut CV. Reaction from Christian Bible Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Reaction from Christian Bible - Essay Example He assumed that the church in Rome was beset by in-fighting within itself which required for them to become united and work with each other and not against each other. The other assumption that was in Paul’s letter was that the Christians in Rome needed to have the faith interpreted to them in a way that made sense to them and in a way that strengthened their faith and belief in Christianity. Another assumption was that there was a lot of misinformation about the Christian faith in Rome and he needed to explain the truths and inner workings of Christianity in a way that made sense to the Christian group in Rome and in a way that made their stand on ethics, their lifestyle and their beliefs clear and understandable to all and sundry. He assumed that the Christians needed advice on how to live with each other and how to live with their Roman rulers. Finally he made clear his assumption that he was not the only one with all the answers but that he also needed the prayers and supp ort of the Christians in Rome (Bright and Simons 4). In â€Å"Resident Aliens†, several assumptions are made. The first one is that the Christian life is much like life in a colony of believers immersed in a sea of unbelief. It assumes that though libertarian theory promises freedom it instead endowed society with self-centeredness, exclusivity, loneliness and an ever-challenging environment full of crime and all sorts of inequity and inequality (Hauerwas and Willimon 50). The article assumes that life in the Christian †colony†, far from being a smooth journey was instead a treacherous adventure full of unknowns and likens it to jumping onto a moving train (Hauerwas and Willimon 52). Another assumption made is that Christians do not know what’s in store for them when they join the Church or go through baptism. It assumes that Christianity promises a never ending journey whose details are vague and whose promises may not always be realized. It assumes that C hristianity is made up of nothing more than stories usually with a happy ending at the end of the misery and drudgery of life as we know it. The similarities between the Christian life article and Paul’s letter to the Romans are quite stark. In both narratives, the Christian community lives in a world where they are surrounded by unbelievers who make it both difficult for them to practice their faith as detailed in the Bible but also affect relations within the Church itself. The story of Shady Grove and its slow but definite assimilation of the black population is similar in many ways to the way the early Roman Christian church included the non-Jews or Gentiles in their ranks. The assumption of the â€Å"restlessness† of the Christian journey today has similarities to the uncertainties of early Roman church life. Even the whole conundrum of whether or not to have children and the kind of sexual lifestyle that one adopts are likened to the struggles of the Christian mi nority in Roman times against a very un-Christian standards of the external Roman community. Matthew’s description of the life of Jesus Christ, which is in many ways quite similar to those of Mark and Luke, takes the form of an introduction to the life and times of Jesus Christ, placing it firmly in the Jewish society of the time and relating what the coming of Christ, his life, teachings, his suffering and resurrection. The book is detailed and well laid out, placing the

Hollywood Farmers Market Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Hollywood Farmers Market - Assignment Example I noticed that the produce are clearly marked and can be classified into non-organic, certified organic, unofficial organic and no spray produce. The market also provides resources and information about organic farming and foods; this gives consumer’s knowledge on decision making on whether to purchase organic or non-organic foods. A number of certified organic products in the market had the USDA logo, and they were clearly classified and arranged in different stalls from the rest of organic products which enabled the customers to choose wisely. Enquiring on regulations, I found out that some of the farmers and vendors who had a gross turnover of 5000 were exempted from the certification process but they faced regulations and inspections by the government. In the market organic produce included a number of fruits, oranges, tomatoes, mangoes and vegetables which included spinach, kales and herbs. There were also some free range chickens, with some natural eggs which were certif ied organic produce. Some of non-organic products included vegetables, herbs and fruits that were produced using genetically engineered seeds, chemicals, radiations, chemically based fertilizers and pesticides. I got a unique experience from the live chickens in the nooks and crannies of the store display counters (Clark, 1). I figured out that it was great fun carrying out open air shopping and having meals in the restaurants around the farmers market. A number of un-official products like omega XL a natural supplement, natural wine CSA and other minerals like Fulvic ionic were present in the market. After enquiring from one of the vendors, I realized that there are 100% organic product which contained certified contents. Examples of such products included fruits, vegetables, milk, orange, juice, cheese, eggs, chicken and beef. Upon talking to a number of farmers and vendors, it came to my realization that a number of farmers in Hollywood market have complied with a number of organ ic restrictions but they have not taken or given any certification with some arguing that the cost of getting the certification is high and if one is acquired the burden can be passed to the consumers. After walking around the market, I interviewed some farmers and vendors regarding their products, their farming methods and the justification for using the methods that they do. On the methods that are used to produce particular vegetables which are mainly organic, majority of their responses was that the vegetables were purely grown using manure through compost or droppings from a number of animals. Most of the people I interviewed said that they used artificial fertilizers. They further said that the vegetables were exposed to harsh environment and were not covered or housed in any greenhouse. They also used natural ways of preventing pests such as mixing farming with plants like pyrethrum which repel pests away. The farmers also gave me some perceptions that are used in organic far ming, majority of their fields are planted with grains such as corns, oats, soya beans, wheat and cover crops so as to build soil fertility. Other farmers outlined the guidelines used to get organic certification in their farms, which included a number of aspects like land requirements, pesticides used, seed selected and growing practices (Clark, 1). On their farming methods the farmers argued that some conventional methods are used to raise cattle where they are fed with diets

Interpreted language Essay Example for Free

Interpreted language Essay Interpreted language can be vague, based upon cultural differences. However, language can be compiled or written which strictly distinguishes how language is spoken around the world. Language, in fact, is the foundation of every culture. Language is an abstract system of word meanings and symbols for all aspects of culture. It includes: * Speech * Written characters * Numerals * Symbols * Gestures * Expression of nonverbal communication Clearly, languages reflect the priorities of a culture. Unlike some other elements of cultures, language permeates all parts of society. Nations vary dramatically in their tolerance for a variety of languages. By contrast, language structures our thinking and opinions. One step to creating better international understanding is to be conscientious about using language that accurately conveys what we mean. Language knows no political boundaries. Every place in the world has its own unique kind of people. Each member of a sub-cultural deserves respect, since they have their own mix of physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual assets to contribute. Geographically, language is correct in their area. However, in each of these locations, individuals have problems with accents, dialect, and speech rate such as stuttering. Language barrier tend to cause decline in productivity and frustration amongst the company, employees, and customers. Language (Cultural) difference cause barriers in the workplace and it can have a negative effect on the environment at the workplace. Due to growth in diversities in business, companies have to employ different cultures. Companies that fail to accommodate individuals are subject to discrimination lawsuits. Though companies set up different programs in order to combat this problem, cultural diversity continues to grow and issues continue. As organizations introduce diversity, the culture of the workplace will change. People make judgments based on what they already know of their own values and beliefs. When the unknown element is interjected, it causes confusion, fear, and chaos. This forces people to question themselves and defend their beliefs. When organizations increase diversity in the work environment, clashes occur amongst different cultures. Diversity brings in different perspectives, different approaches to problem solving, different visions, different languages, and different expectations. Communications, in face-to-face exchanges as well as through company newsletters and training sessions, should be welcoming and should accentuate the positive effects of employing workers with varying talents and accomplishments (Developing Diversity Initiatives, 1993). Organizations change as they become more diverse. Many changes will cause anger, frustration, and confusion. The introduction of cultural diversity, which includes different languages, causes organizations to go through five stages: * Anger Workers will resist change and expect others to fit their norms and speak their language. * Passive Regression People will become withdrawn. There will be little to no sharing of information, which is very important to be successful. * Chaos Groups form and struggle to regain power. This when discrimination accusations begin to surface. * Reclamation- this where the bridge builders arrive. They bridge the gaps between the groups. Bridge builders can belong to any group, respect other positions, and have pride in their own cultural identities. It is the bridge builders who can act as a link between the groups * Celebration This is the celebration of a new diverse culture. It is understood by everyone, that language and cultural diversity benefits everyone. The people are not uptight but comfortable and understanding of each others culture. This is the longest and most difficult stage for the groups to complete. There are steps that companies can take to prevent civil unrest within an organization. The following steps can be used to prevent confrontation and assist in creating a positive and productive environment: * Purpose Develop a strong sense of purpose for the employees that transcend all differences including language. A common purpose will keep the working together for the common goal. By developing purpose, the organization is relaying the message that all the different groups and cultures are on the same team and are all one company. * Tell Stories Stories help connect the groups. Through stories, different groups can relate to each other as people. Stories also give the groups a chance to voice its opinions and concerns. * Self Awareness Companies should develop self awareness * Within the organization commonly, people are afraid of the unknown. By developing self-awareness, the organization forces the groups to face the unknown and to overcome their fears and insecurities. * Training Programs Companies should implement training programs to teach the different groups to be culturally aware of one another. The programs should also include language courses to teach communication skills. Organizations are adapting a number of approaches to overcome language barriers among employees (Journal of Business, 2000). English is the universal language of business, and it is only one of several languages spoken in the United States. It is very important for organizations to create an environment where everyone, despite language spoken, is considered equal. Companies are offering training courses and providing translators to make everyone feel comfortable. As the population becomes more diverse and the traditional societies are becomes more mobile, companies are faced with cultural and language issues. It is up to the organization to make sure it is taking all the necessary steps to ensure that groups and cultures effectively work together and is productive. Language does more than simply describe reality; it also serves to shape the reality of a culture(Colorado Business Communication, 1991). Like other forms of language, nonverbal communication is not the same in all cultures. It can take many forms such as facial expressions and visual images to learn nonverbal communication from people who share our same culture. For instance, people with hearing loss communicate using sign language that is another way of communicating. Your signing hand is the hand you write and color with and your other hand is the helping hand. This technique found @ www.signlanguage.org is informative for nonverbal communication. Gesture, body posture, direction of attention, eye contact, level of conversation, and other behaviors are interpreted as signs of inclusion and exclusion. However, there are many layers of communicating further. Verbal language and body language signifies whether the line of interaction is conveyed and not a form of evasiveness. With the perception that English is the universal language, it is not always perceived by all nations or society as a whole. Those of us who do use English do so in spite of our ambiguity towards it, or perhaps because we can find in that linguistic struggle a reflection of other struggles taking place in the real world, struggle between the cultures within ourselves and the influences at work upon our societies. To conquer English may be to complete the process of making ourselves free. As relations grow in the workplace, the social interaction is not the same. For example, when Spanish-speaking employees interact with English-speaking employees some issues that formulate are: which language to speak or when to use an interpreter. In a social setting it is even harder when greeting and addressing people correctly. Thou not to provide a definitive answer to language as related to pronunciation, it is difficult to understand individuals whom speak English but with an accent. Often, individuals are asked repeatedly what is being said in order to convey what was said. Bahri (Language, 2003) states Language as communication and as culture are then products of each other Language carries culture, and culture carries, particularly through orature and literature, the entire body of values by which we perceive ourselves and our place in the worldLanguage is thus inseparable from ourselves as community of human beings with a specific form and character, a specific history, a specific relationship to the work. Language is a critical element of culture. Members of society generally share a common language, which facilitates day-to-day exchanges with others. There are many ways of communicating language in the workforce and, it is not the only way to show a line of interaction to work together but a way of social interaction. The work force is just one avenue to rectify the critical success for todays employer when diversity by todays standards is met. References Bahira, Depika (2003). Language.

Recognition Speech

To the ever steadfast director and school principal, Mr. Bartolome L. Avila, to the highly competent and deeply motivated teachers and staff; other officials who are present on this occasion;to the proud and loving parents; to the very important people- the stars, in today’s ceremonies, the awardees, ladies and gentlemen, a pleasant morning. Like most of you today, my feelings are really overwhelming. I know, you guys are as excited about this event as I am so excited to speak before you today. Not so long ago, I was seating exactly where you are right now and hearing an inspirational talk from a guest speaker back then. Yes, I am but a proud alumna of Pililla Academy and soon you too will be part of the Alumni. Today, Pililla Academy will name those outstanding students who brought honors to themselves, and to this school. As we, you gather here and start viewing those simple and ordinary faces, you will realize that these achievers are exactly as everyone else. The only thing different is that, they have made their choices. That is to STAND and be recognized in the area where they choose to be the best one. It is a matter of CHOICE. It is between doing the right thing or not, or be recognized in good things or in all foolish activities. â€Å"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow a lready know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. †

How Powerful Women Reinforce The Feminine Supremacy Of Medea

How powerful woman reinforce the masculine supremacy in Medea Medea, is Greek tragedy written by Euripides in 431 BCE, based upon the unhappy love story of Jason and Medea. The plot focuses on the actions of one powerful woman, Medea, the wife of Jason; she finds life difficult after Jason betrays and leaves her for a Greek princess of Corinth. Hence, Medea takes vengeance on Jason by acting like a â€Å"barbarian† and killing Jason’s new wife as well as her own children with him, after which she finds a new place in Athens to start a new life. By highlighting Medea, a strong woman in a patriarchal society, Euripides challenges his audience to look beyond the stereotypes of a traditional woman, ironically, he shows how a powerful woman can actually reinforce the patriarchal ideology. In Act one, Nurse introduces Medea and claims the unequal treatment of women in Greek society. Addressing that Jason â€Å"calls the old bond a barbarian mating, not a Greek marriage† (Euripides 9), later the chorus speaks on the wretched women in Corinth who suffer from the unfaithful actions of men. In Medea’s soliloquy, she rages on the fact that she was submissive and obedient to Jason under the dowry system. The audiences can infer that women in Corinth had little power in a marriage that controlled their lives. The unique dowry system prohibits women’s freedom in the choice, establishes many sexual and marital inequalities. All these restrictions put the â€Å"good and submissive† wife under their
